How to Tie a Tie

How many of you are expert in knot a tie? I can judge a very few can. Well it is not shameful that we are grown up kids and still can’t tie a tie. The lack of knowledge to tie a tie is one of the things to be granted by human being on the planet.  Just have a thought if you are expert in knotting the tie in appropriate way then what would happen? Imagine! : I would have the respectable status for those who can’t are not expert in knotting the tie. Well this is not a guarantee but you would better than the film heroes in tie knotting they seek help from their wives to tie a tie in films.  There are four style of tie knotting such as is four-in-hand knot, Half Windsor knot, Traditional Windsor knot and Pratt Knot. But we will discuss only two basic style of tie knotting.


Four-in-hand knot Method is an appropriate for casual looks. You can wear the four-in-hand knot on blazer, t shirts, jeans etc.

1.  First and foremost thing is to check yourself in a mirror and be sure that the button of your shirt is in proper way so that it could fit the tie. Then take a tie around your neck.  Be careful that the wide end should be on your dominant hand side. If you are right handed then it should be on right and if you are lefty then you are wise enough which side it should be.

2.  It is said that wise people always check the seam of the tie. Then you should move the wider end of the tie over the narrow one for the crossing of them on each other on the seam.  Then pull the wider end just behind the narrow one.  Then turns to wide end and make it around so that it faces off to your left side. Then do this again i.e., bring the wide end under the narrow end again.  Slowly pull the wider end under the loop which is around your neck and also pull it down through the knot at the front of neck tie. Now it’s time to fasten the knot by give it a slide upside the narrow end.  Now your tie is ready and you can happy over this achievement. Please check it in a mirror.

Half Windsor knot is another method for wearing the tie on formal outfits. In this method of knotting, the knot is bigger and is preferred for its not so bulky knot than the full Windsor style.

Let’s try Half Windsor style of tie knotting. Firstly, take the wide portion of the tie on your right. The length of the wide side should be three times larger than the narrow side. It’s time to wide side to be crossed over the narrow portion and take the former over the loop around the collar. Make it little tight then go for the wide side which will go over the narrow side from front moving right to left. Slide the wide portion up through the loop around your collar. In the next step the wide side should be thorough the knot in the front and tight it by making triangle shape. Now you need to just tight it around your neck by pulling on the narrow side of the tie.
